Everest Base Camp Charity Trek – Blog

Graeme Melrose Everest Base Camp Charity Trek – Blog

Over the next 12 days, One Four Nine Wealth (Glasgow) Chartered Financial Planner Graeme Melrose will be trekking to Everest Base Camp to raise funds and awareness for One Four Nine Group’s Charity Partner of the Year, Alzheimer’s Society.

This blog will follow Graeme’s journey along the trek as we receive updates from him – the highs, the lows, and the stunning views – as he makes his way towards Base Camp, step by step, for a world without Alzheimer’s. If you would like to donate to Graeme’s incredible efforts, you can find his JustGiving page here.

Day One

Unexpectedly, after more than 27 hours of travel and anticipating a rest day on Sunday, Graeme and the group were informed that their trek would begin a day earlier than planned.

Up at 5 a.m. and with very little rest, Graeme and the group kept their spirits high as they boarded their flight to Lukla (2,850 m / 9,350 ft), and were treated to some truly incredible views which you can see below – a sentence we expect will be repeated many times throughout his journey!

Day One was described as a relaxed walk, taking in the surrounding valley views and getting used to life on the trail, as walkers made their way downhill towards Phakding. The walk was expected to take around 3–4 hours, depending on how many stops the group made and how many delicious cups of tea they enjoyed along the way.

Once they arrived in Phakding (2,650 m / 8,694 ft), Graeme had the afternoon to relax and begin the acclimatization process, preparing for Day Two: the trek from Phakding to Namche.
